MUSCLE MLK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

UBC Thunderbirds goalie Danielle Dube was a wall over the Blue and Gold’s two-game series against the Alberta Pandas, as they swept the reigning Canada West champions on the backs of a 4-0 shutout, and a 2-1 double overtime decision.
 
Dube made 25 saves in the former, providing a steadying presence in the early going, as UBC was outshot 9-6 in the opening frame. Dube’s play allowed the ‘Birds to earn a 1-0 midway through the first period, and they never looked back.
 
The second showing was a terrific one from the veteran netminder, as Dube saw 65:10 of action, making 24 saves, including seven in overtime, in the 2-1 double OT win. Earning 5 of 6 possible points from the weekend’s contests, the ‘Birds moved into a tie with Alberta for the top spot in Canada West.

For her outstanding work, Dube was named Canada West's First Star of the Week amongst all female athletes.
 
The Thunderbirds return to action this weekend, as they’re set to host the Saskatchewan Huskies in a two-game series at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre on Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23.
