Biography
Vannieuwenhuizen’s rookie season with the Thunderbirds came to an end January 10th when he broke his leg against the University of Regina. Prior to the injury, he played in 17 games.
A physical, stay-at-home defenceman the native of Chilliwack, BC played 191 career games in the WHL with Vancouver Giants scoring five goals and 26 assists for 31 points. He also had 416 career penalty minutes. He was the Giants captain in his final year.
He went to the Edmonton Oilers rookie camp in 2011.
