Shomari Williams enters his second season with UBC Thunderbirds football, serving as both the recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach for the program in 2019.
The Brampton, Ont., native moved to the West Coast after spending 2018 as the Assistant Coach, Football Recruiting for the Queen’s University Gaels in Kingston, Ont.
As a player at Queen’s, Williams was a defensive standout, leading the Gaels to the 2009 Vanier Cup national championship. He won the Most Valuable Player honour in the Mitchell Bowl national semifinal game. Before Queen’s, Williams played for the NCAA Division 1 University of Houston Cougars, graduating with a degree in business and entrepreneurship.
Williams was selected first overall in the 2010 Canadian Football League Draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders and played a total of four campaigns with them and one season each with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Calgary Stampeders.
While in school, Williams founded Top Prospects, a web-based business that assists high school athletes in obtaining athletic scholarships.
