Jerome Erdman is in his second stint as the UBC Thunderbirds defensive coordinator after filling the role during the 2000-01 season before moving on to a number of positions at the CFL and CIS level that included stops as coach of the T-Bird secondary in 2002 and 2007. He began his second tenure in 2010 when he was hired by then first-year head coach Shawn Olson.
A standout defensive back at Simon Fraser University from 1979-1981, Erdman carried over that success to the pro level, playing eight seasons in the CFL for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (with whom he won the 1984 Grey Cup), Ottawa Roughriders, and Edmonton Eskimos before a five-year stint with the Glasgow Lions in Europe capped off a very successful playing career.
Erdman began his coaching career with the Lions while he was still playing, leading the defence for four seasons before taking over as head coach in 1996 after his on-field retirement. He then spent three years with the Scottish Claymores (NFL Europe) before returning to Canada and his first stint with the T-Birds.
From 2002-06 Erdman was on staff with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats coaching both the linebackers and special team units. After his second tour of duty with the 'Birds in 2007, he took over as receivers coach and special teams assistant with the Toronto Argonauts for the 2008 CFL season. Prior to returning to UBC in 2012 he coached special teams and the defensive line at McGill University.
