UBC ATHLETICS WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP RECEPTION
Join us for an evening of inspiration, encouragement and motivation as UBC Athletics present the first annual Women’s Sport Leadership Networking event on Tuesday, November 19th in Downtown Vancouver. Engage in the conversation as panelists discuss turning points in their careers and the risks they took on the path to “owning their brand”. We’ll also hear about how their involvement in sports helped drive and develop them to become the leaders they are today.
Enjoy an evening with your peers, mentors, and the leaders of tomorrow as you discover how to navigate your career path, how lessons learned from athletics can be applied to the workplace, and how taking risks can help refine your unique identity.

Jamie Broder
Volleyball/Beach Volleyball
UBC ’09
Growing up in Victoria BC, Jamie started playing Beach Volleyball when she was 15 years old and fell in love with the sport immediately. She started her indoor volleyball career as a right side at Vancouver Island University, but after three years transferred to University of British Columbia. By the time her five-year indoor career came to an end she had helped UBC win their first CIS championship in 30 years and kick started their CIS dominance of 6 repeat championships. She also finished as a CIS Championship tournament all-star. Jamie made Canadian history in 2015 by winning the first ever medal for Canadian Women’s Beach Volleyball, a gold medal at the FIVB Open in Fuzhou China.
Alexa Loo
Rowing/Swimming/Snowboarding
UBC ’94
Alexa grew up in Richmond, BC as an all-around athlete and major participant in the community. By the time she arrived at UBC, she had chosen to focus on both rowing, and swimming while working towards her Bachelor of Commerce. Upon graduation, Alexa focused her athletic prowess on a long time passion – snowboard racing. It was in snowboarding that Alexa really found her footing on the national and international stage. She competed in 2 Olympic Games, 5 World Championships, and won 11 National Titles. She also actively worked behind the scenes with governmental bodies, lobbying federal governmental bodies to increase funding and participation for snowboarding.
Post-sporting career, Alexa has moved into difference-making in a different arena; she now serves on the Richmond City Council while parenting two young boys.
