VANCOUVER, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds (13-0-2) wrapped up their 2026 Canada West regular season schedule in style with a dominant 5-0 victory over the visiting UNBC Timberwolves (2-6-6) at Thunderbirds Stadium on Saturday evening.
First half goals from
Brandon Momotani,
Henri Godbout, and
Luke Norman had UBC three goals to the good by the break. Norman grabbed his brace immediately after half time, before
Nicolas Nadeau rounded off the five-star performance in the 81st minute.
A solid performance from start to finish for UBC, who recorded their ninth clean sheet of the season and will now head into the playoffs full of confidence.
"It was good, another complete performance," UBC head coach
Mike Mosher said after the match. "At the midpoint of the season we were saying we've got to play full 90s and clean sheets and we've done a lot of that over the last several games, so really pleased."
Fittingly for Senior Night, it was a graduating player who opened the scoring for UBC with just six minutes on the clock when Momotani pounced to fire home after tenacious work from
Oliver Herbert to set up the chance.
Nadeau saw a fierce shot turned away by UNBC goalkeeper Oliver Shum in the 14th minute, before Godbout doubled UBC's lead in the 28th minute, firing home from the edge of the box after being set up by Norman.
Norman grabbed himself a goal with seven minutes of the first half remaining, tucking away his sixth of the season after good set-up play from Momotani.
There was no let up by the Thunderbirds at the start of the second and Norman grabbed his second of the game, firing home from the edge of the box 40 seconds after the restart.
Godbout almost made it five three minutes later, denied by a big save from Shum, and then saw the keeper tip over a deflection off him on the hour mark.
Shum kept out substitute
Max Comsia in the 79th minute, but UBC weren't to be denied that fifth goal, as Nadeau capped off a great individual performance with his first goal of the season from 20 yards out.
The Thunderbirds had a few chances to add more as the minutes ticked down, but good goalkeeping and defending were to keep them at bay.
UBC now have a bye week before the Canada West playoffs get underway in two weeks' time.
