KAMLOOPS, B.C. – There was some scorching golf played on the second day of the Golf Canada Canadian University/College Championship, especially on the men's side, where the UBC Thunderbirds shot -13 as a team on the day to extend their lead at the top of the standings.
Now at -9 for the tournament at the halfway point, the T-Birds sit 11 strokes ahead of the Victoria Vikes, who also shot below par as a team in Wednesday's action, the only other school to do so.
On the individual leaderboard,
Aidan Schumer sits in a tie for second at -4 overall, just one stroke back of Windsor's Alek Mauro. The T-Bird who had the best individual round today, however, was
Dylan MacDonald, who shot a 67 (-5) to shoot up into a tie for fourth.
Hudson LaFayette (T7) and
John Paul Kahlert (T14) both shot under par as well in round two, as UBC more than doubled their lead over their closest competition.
The women's squad remained consistent, becoming the first team at this year's tournament to shoot under par in a round this tournament (215, -1).
Una Chou fired a tournament-low 69 (-3) in the second round, pushing her into solo first on the individual leaderboard at -4.
Grace Bell (+1),
Bo Brown (+3) and
Jessica Ng (+6) all sport top seven individual scores, with the UBC Okanagan Heat having two of the other three. The Heat are the closest team to catching the T-Birds after they shot an even 216 as a team in round two, although they're still 10 strokes back.
Now with two days in the book, the Thunderbirds will need to remain locked in for the second half of the tournament. The third round begins tomorrow morning at Rivershore Golf Links, click
