'Birds remain unbeaten with sweep of WolfPack

KAMLOOPS, B.C. – The U SPORTS No.1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (5-0) cruised to a straight sets win (25-11, 25-19, 25-14) over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack (2-4) at TCC Gym on Friday night.

The T-Birds dominated serve/receive en route to the comfortable victory, notching 12 aces while allowing just 1 from the 'Pack.

Gavin Moes and Dawson Pratt accounted for three of those aces each, a team-high, with Moes also leading the 'Birds with seven kills. Mason Greves and Reeve Gingera were tops on the T-Birds with six digs each, while Greves also posted a match-high 19 assists. Alex Emery was the best blocker on the court, racking up five rejections.

The only set that appeared to be in jeopardy was the second, where Thompson Rivers managed to find its best form on offence. The WolfPack hit .250 as a group, by far their highest attack percentage of any frame. UBC was also at its best during the stanza however, attacking at a .412 clip to pull out the six-point win.

As a team, the T-Birds led in every major statistical category and finished the match with a strong .311 hitting percentage, while the WolfPack ended at an even .000.

The two teams meet for a rematch back at TCC Gym at 4:45 p.m. (PT) on Saturday.
