LANGLEY, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds have swept their home-and-home with the Trinity Western Spartans, winning the second leg of the series 45-12 at the Langley Rugby Club Sports Field on Saturday.
The two teams exchanged tries early in the first half, with only a convert giving the T-Birds a 14-12 lead through the first 25 minutes.
That's when the 'Birds took flight, with 
Max McGavern and 
James Mahaffy scoring before half-time to open up a big lead, which ballooned to a 45-12 blowout with three more unanswered tries in the second half.
 
After the match, UBC head coach 
Didier Banse said he felt that, among several standout performances, 
Liam James was the team's best back and 
Liam Kinghorn the team's best forward.
The T-Birds now come back home for three straight matches at the Gerald McGavin UBC Rugby Centre, before heading to Montreal for the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship in mid-November. Next up is a Premier League match with Westshore RFC on Saturday, October 18
th at 2:30 p.m. (PT).
