MEDFORD, Ore – The UBC Thunderbirds (18-19, 10-10) had their bats quieted by the strong pitching and defence of the NAIA No.10-ranked Southern Oregon Raiders (32-10, 17-4) on Saturday, dropping both halves of a doubleheader 5-2 and 7-0 at Lithia & Driveway Fields.
After twirling a complete game shutout on Friday,
Shae Sever was the best of the 'Birds pitchers once again. Sever gave up two runs in 3.2 innings, coming away with a no-decision in her game one start on Saturday.
Kaitlyn Eng paced the T-Birds' offence by tallying three hits, an RBI and a stolen base over the two games.

UBC jumped out to an early lead in game one, scoring their only two runs of the day in the second inning. Jessica Heutnik knocked in the first with a single up the middle, cashing in
Gabrielle Dorval who had reached on a fielder's choice. Three batters later, Eng slapped a single through the left side to cash in Heutnik and put the blue and gold ahead 2-0.
The T-Birds would keep that advantage until the fourth inning when the Raiders would bunt home a run and score a second on a wild pitch to knot the game at 2-2.
A sacrifice fly in the fifth gave the home team the lead, and SOU added a pair of RBI singles in the sixth to wrap up the 5-2 win, giving them victories in two of the series' three conference games.

The finale was all Southern Oregon. Though UBC's pitching held the Raiders to no more than two runs in any inning, they managed to score in every frame but the first, slowly building up to the 7-0 win.
The T-Birds' best scoring chance came in the second inning, which Dorval and Heutnik started with a pair of singles. However, neither was able to advance past second, two of the six runners that the 'Birds stranded throughout the game.
The four-game set wrapped up with SOU winning three of the four matchups overall, but UBC did take one conference game, marking the second straight weekend that they've managed to upset a top 10-ranked NAIA team during a brutally difficult stretch of their season.
Next up for the 'Birds is their final home series of the year against the University of Providence. The teams are set to play a pair of doubleheaders, beginning with a 2:00 p.m. (PT) first pitch on Friday, April 19 at Collings Field at Nobel Park. UBC will also be honouring its graduating seniors over the course of the weekend.
