VANCOUVER – On the heels of a successful home-opening weekend, the UBC Thunderbirds (9-7, 2-1) are scheduled to host Warner Pacific University (0-10, 0-3) for a four game (one non-conference) series at Collings Field at Nobel Park beginning on Thursday, March 7 at 1:00 p.m.

The 'Birds enter the weekend having won three out of four games last weekend against the visiting Bushnell Beacons. After earning back-to-back shutout victories on Saturday, UBC avenged a tough 6-1 loss Sunday morning with a 6-5 victory in the afternoon.

"We are happy with the results, winning the series is always our goal and the girls worked really hard for it," said UBC head coach
Jennifer McKellar. "Our defense and pitching were excellent earning us two shutout wins and we have a lot of confidence in that part of our team. Timely hitting and players stepping up with runners on base is what defines our offense and we hope to see more consistency in that building off this weekend."

Second-year pitcher
Carleen Murray showcased her dominance from the mound, securing two shutouts and recording seven strikeouts in three out of four battles.
Shae Sever also made her mark with a momentum-shifting grand slam in the final contest of the series, providing UBC with the advantage to clinch the series victory.

This weekend, the T-Birds will face the Warner Pacific Knights, who dropped their first series of the Cascade Collegiate Conference to Southern Oregon. Warner fell victim to the five-inning rule in all four matchups last weekend.

"Warner is coming off playing the 2023 NAIA World Series champs (SOU), so they will have been tested and hungry for a win," added McKellar when asked what to expect of the visiting team. "We aren't as familiar with who they played in the pre-season, but they will come in ready to compete."

Due to weather concerns, the four-game set between UBC and Warner Pacific has been moved to a Thursday double-header (1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. PT.) followed by another two-games scheduled for Friday (11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. PT.). All games will be played at Collings Field.
