'Birds drop doubleheader at Eastern Oregon

LA GRANDE, Ore. - The UBC Thunderbirds dropped a doubleheader to the No. 14 ranked Eastern Oregon Mountaineers Friday in Oregon. EOU took game one behind an 11 strikeout performance from Kaylie Hoskins by a score of 2-0 and game two by a score of 9-1.

GAME ONE

Both teams had strong pitching performances. For the Mounties it was Kaylie Hoskins in the circle who delivered once again, striking out 11 batters while going the distance and allowing just three hits. For the Thunderbirds it was a tandem of Carleen Murray and Shae Sever in the circle. Collectively they racked up 11 strikeouts while allowing five hits. The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when Eastern Oregon's offense came alive. Madelyn Durham delivered a clutch hit, which allowed both Grace Spencer and Addison Ribordy to score giving Eastern a 2-0 lead. Durham's two-RBI base hit showed to be the difference as Hoskins and the Mountaineers were able to close the Thunderbirds out to take game one by a score of 2-0.
