BREMERTON, Wash. – It's a close one at the top of the leaderboard at the UBC Thunderbirds Men's Invitational, as the hosts from British Columbia are just four strokes ahead of out-of-conference visitors Ottawa University-Arizona Spirit.
Over 60 golfers took to the course at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Washington, for two full rounds of action on the first day of the tournament. The Thunderbirds scored 563 (-13), while the Spirit recorded a team total of 567 (-9).
Dylan MacDonald leads the way on the individual leaderboard for UBC, with a two-round score of 135 (-9). He's followed by teammate
Aidan Schumer and OUAZ athlete Gustav Sandstrom who are tied at 138 (-6). The low round of the day, though, belonged to Jagre Knight from the Victoria Vikes. Knight shot 66 (-8) on the second round of the day in a very impressive performance.
The Vikes sit in third place as a team at 577 (+1). Placements are up for grabs across the leaderboard heading into Day 2 with the Southern Oregon Raiders (594), Lewis-Clark State Warriors (602), Oregon Tech Owls (609), Corban Warriors (615), College of Idaho Yotes (616), Walla Walla University Wolves (621), Multnomah Lions (631) and Bushnell Beacons (641) rounding out the field.
The UBC Thunderbirds Men's Invitational is a 54-hole tournament that will end following a third and final round on Tuesday.
The tournament is the second of four Cascade Conference events this season, following the Bushnell Fall Invitational in September. UBC won that event, and they now aim to make it two for two before the winter break.
