Halloween may still be a few weeks away, but there were fireworks in Prince George on Friday night as the UBC Thunderbirds scored seven in a dominant win over the UNBC Timberwolves.
Jade Taylor-Ryan stole the show once again, as the reigning Canada West Player of the Week recorded three goals and an assist to keep her hot streak going.
The T-Birds recorded an astounding 32 shot attempts, with Timberwolves goalie Brityn Hinsche making 12 saves on the night.
UBC got the party started just a couple of minutes into the game, when
Sophia Ferreira whipped a great cross to the back post to Taylor-Ryan. Although her header was saved by Hinsche, both she and
Sienna Gibson crashed the net in a mad scramble for the rebound, which Taylor-Ryan eventually poked home.
Holly Whelan then doubled the lead in the 6th minute. Receiving a simple square pass outside of the box, the second-year midfielder decided to let loose a shot from 25 yards out which nestled perfectly in the bottom corner.
Nisa Reehal made it three in the 34th, with Taylor-Ryan playing provider. The striker played a simple ball over the top to Reehal, who had ghosted in behind the defence and had acres of space to run into. The veteran attacker made no mistake, beating the keeper one on one to extend the lead. A successful Taylor-Ryan penalty shot a few minutes later put the score at 4-0 heading into halftime.
UBC kept the pressure on in the second half, with Taylor-Ryan finding the back of the net again in the 49th. This time it was
Ella Sunde who supplied the assist, slipping a pass through the defence to Taylor-Ryan just inside the box.
The in-form forward finished the play beautifully, receiving the ball and turning towards goal in one smooth motion before sliding it under the onrushing netminder. The goal marked her second career hat trick as a Thunderbird, and her ninth goal in the last six games.
The T-Birds calmly closed the game out from there, and in the final few minutes added another pair of goals. First it was Reehal who lifted the ball over the keeper on a breakaway in the 87th, before
Bailey Doerksen found a tap-in off a rebound just a minute later.
With the win, UBC's record stays perfect at 11-0. There's just three games remaining in the regular season, next up being another meeting with UNBC on Saturday night. That clash begins at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
