T-Birds drop three tight sets to Wesmen

WINNIPEG - The U SPORTS No. 7-ranked UBC Thunderbirds dropped a three set match (25-19, 25-17, 25-20) to the U SPORTS No.8-ranked Winnipeg Wesmen at the Duckworth Centre on Friday night.

The T-Birds, coming off of a bye week follow a split against Mount Royal to open the year, actually racked up more kills and assists than the Wesmen, but lost due to a number of errors.

Reeve Gingera led the way with 10 of those kills and Logan Greves had a match-high 11 digs.



Isaiah Olfert led the Wesmen with 11 kills and had three of the team's eight aces. Winnipeg made just nine errors on 73 swings, attacking at a .260 clip for the match.
 
The loss also snapped a five-match 'Birds winning streak against the Wesmen dating back to 2019, the last time the UBC visited Winnipeg.

The two teams play again on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. (PT) back at the Duckworth Centre. Stream the game on Canada West TV.
