Abbotsford, BC – For the second straight meeting, the UBC Thunderbirds defeated the UFV Cascades in straight sets 3-0 (15-25, 16-25, 21-25) at the UFV Athletic Centre on Saturday. With the victory the T-Birds see their record improve to 6-4 on the season, while the Cascades, who struggled on offence fall to 4-6 on the Canada West campaign.

As it happened:
The Thunderbirds started strong on Saturday, jumping out to a 9-5 lead, before extending it to 15-9. Back-to-back aces from Gavin Moes helped them go up 21-11 on their way to the opening set win.

A pair of aces from Kieran Robinson-Dunning, and two kills from Gavin Moes gave UBC a 10-4 advantage early, and despite four kills from UFV's Nimo Benne in the remainder of the set, the deficit proved too much to recover from and the Thunderbirds took the set 25-16.

After trading runs early in the third, UBC held an 11-9 lead, but a pair of aces from James Vincett and another from Mason Greves put them up 17-10. The Cascades made a run late in the set, capped off by rookie Kian Bos picking up his first career kill to make it 24-21, but UBC closed out the match on a Reeve Gingera kill the following play.

Top performers:
Benne posted a team-high 11 kills and eight digs for UFV, while Tyson Ardell notched five kills and two aces, and libero Reece Wilson chipped in five digs.
