VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds are getting set to play host to the third and final stop of the Canada West Women's Rugby Sevens Series this coming weekend Friday, February 25 and Saturday, February 26 at Thunderbird Stadium.

The T-Birds enter action occupying second place among eight teams in the standings with 20 points following the first two series' events of the season. The rival UVic Vikes hold down top spot with 24 points after amassing a perfect 11-0 record en route to winning both previous tournaments.

The 'Birds will welcome six teams to the Point Grey campus, listed in order of the current standings beginning with the Vikes and followed by the Alberta Pandas, Lethbridge Pronghorns, Calgary Dinos, Trinity Western Spartans and the Fraser Valley Cascades.

The Tournament will be a round-robin format, with the winner decided by the best win-loss record. Play kicks off at 10:00 a.m. on Friday morning at Thunderbird Stadium with UVic meeting Calgary, followed by UBC taking on UFV at 10:22 a.m. The T-Birds then face TWU at 12:22 p.m. before wrapping up play as the final game of day one hosting Alberta at 2:44 p.m. Day two action begins Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m.

- Teams are awarded four points for a win, two points for a draw, and one point for a loss.
- Teams are awarded 12 points for a tournament win, 10 points for finishing 2nd, 8 points for finishing third, 6 points for finishing fourth, 4 points for finishing fifth, 2 points for finishing sixth, and 1 points for finishing seventh.
UBC finished with a 4-2 record at the opening event hosted by the Alberta Pandas in late January followed by a 4-1 showing two weeks ago at the second-tournament hosted by the Victoria. As the runner up at both events UBC collected 10 points at each spot to give them 20 total and just four in arrears of the Vikes in top spot heading into the final weekend.

Savannah Bauder maintains her fine form and output from the Victoria sevens series earlier this month. The North Vancouver, BC product had her speed, vision and awareness on display as she was named the Canada West Rugby Player of the week in mid-February after leading the tournament in tries with 10 in helping UBC come away with the silver medal.
