As a result of the recent extension to public health orders, UBC Athletics has made the difficult decision to cancel the annual Winter Classic and Courtside festival events for this season.
 
With current guidance from the PHO along with continuing attendance restrictions, UBC Athletics is unable to safely encourage the added festivities and spectator engagement traditionally expected and available to us.
 
Although the Courtside festival itself will not take place, the games will still proceed. Scheduled to take place on Friday, February 11, the UBC Women's and Men's Basketball teams will host the Fraser Valley Cascades with spectators welcome at the game at 50% of venue capacity as per PHO limitations.
 
Following the previous postponement of the Winter Classic, the hope was to reschedule the event. However, due to current COVID-19 protocols now extending past the end of the regular season, this opportunity remains unavailable to us.
 
When public health orders become less restrictive, we'll continue to explore opportunities to further engage our student and campus community.
