The UBC Cross Country and Track and Field Program is excited to announce the appointment of Steve Weiler to the position of Assistant Coach / Lead Endurance Coach.
Steve comes to the Thunderbirds with extensive experience, having been the Head Coach and Lead Administrator for the London Runner Distance Club in Ontario.
He has helped athletes achieve 15 National Team selections and 24 individual National Championship medals in endurance events. He is also responsible for founding the well-known '1500 meter night' in London, a highly competitive track meet from which many athletes have qualified for national and international competitions.

Steve's official start date is August 3rd. UBC Endurance will continue to operate with Katrina Allison acting in both a coaching and resource liaison capacity, and Norm Tinkham in his role as assistant endurance coach.
In addition to adding Steve to the program's staff, UBC Power-Speed is excited to announce Cristina Weir to the role of Pole Vault lead. She will work with our incoming vaulters and current decathlete team members.
Cristina is a pole vault pioneer in Canada, having held the National Junior indoor and outdoor records in 1996.
Moreover, in partnership with the Vancouver Thunderbirds Track and Field Club, a women's coaching development program is being introduced for the fall, which will provide opportunities for applied coaching, applied science research, administration, and mentorship to successful applicants across the spectrum of athlete ages and stages. More details on this exciting initiative will be announced in the autumn.
