Four Thunderbird alum are Tokyo-bound with Canada's men's rugby sevens team for the 2020 Olympic Games. Philip Berna, Andrew Coe, Harry Jones, and Theo Sauder will join Team Canada at the Al Charron National Training Centre in Langford, B.C. to prepare for Canada's Olympic men's rugby sevens debut.
Canada qualified for the team's first summer games appearance by winning the Rugby Americas North Sevens regional tournament with a perfect 6-0-0 record in July of 2019.

Maria Gallo joins Team Canada as an assistant coach for the women's rugby sevens squad. Canada captured the inaugural bronze medal at the sport's Olympic debut at the Rio Games in 2016 and earned their second Olympic berth in June of 2019 after winning bronze at the World Rugby Sevens Series in Biarritz, France and finishing third in the 2018-19 series standings. The women are also reigning Pan American Games champions from Lima 2019, and are a serious medal contender.
The men's rugby sevens event takes place from July 26
th to July 28
th, while the women's rugby sevens tournament runs July 29
th to July 31
st – both played at the Tokyo Stadium.
