VANCOUVER – An incredible 278 Thunderbird student-athletes have been recognized for accomplishing the impressive feat of earning Academic All-Canadian status for the 2020-21 school year.
The impressive total shatters the previous record number of athletes who achieved a minimum academic standing of 80%, set one year prior.
Representing every varsity team and a broad range of UBC faculties, these well-rounded role models were celebrated via a virtual gathering hosted by President & Vice Chancellor, Professor Santa J. Ono, who was joined by faculty representatives, coaches, alumni, and staff.
A special luncheon held on December 10
th also honoured 79 of these student-athletes who have either graduated over the past year or who were in their fourth or fifth academic season during the 2020-21 school year.
Academic All-Canadians have been recognized by U SPORTS since 1988. 18 years ago, UBC began applying that standard to all varsity athletes and the annual All-Canadian breakfast has been held ever since.
2021's celebration marked the second consecutive year the event was hosted virtually.
