VICTORIA – The UBC Thunderbirds and UVic Vikes both capitalized on second-half set pieces for their scoring en route to a 1-1 draw in their Canada West regular season finale's Saturday night at Centennial Stadium in Victoria.
Danielle Steer scored her team leading 15
th goal of the season converting on a penalty kick in the 57
th minute to open the scoring ahead of the Vikes responding with a marker off a free kick in minute 76. The draw moves the 'Birds record to 9-1-2 on the season as they secure second spot in the west division standings with 29 points, five behind the first place Trinity Western Spartans who finished on a bye week. The T-Birds who saw their regular season come to a close by setting a new school record with lowest goals against in a regular season allowing just three total will look to remain stingy at the most important time of year. The 'Birds are now set for quarterfinal playoff action where they'll host either the Manitoba Bisons or Regina Cougars this Friday, October 29
th at Thunderbird Stadium.
