Why did you choose to study/play at UBC?
I was hoping to go play soccer in the States because everyone else my age was doing that, but my plans didn't work out and Dick Mosher approached me and asked if I would play for the UBC team so decided to check it out. I knew UBC was a great school and getting to play soccer there was a bonus.
Favorite T-Bird memory:Â
Winning the 2006 National Championship in my final year. It was in Victoria so my family was there and even though I was a center back I scored in every game of the tournament and won MVP. It was pretty amazing!!
Favorite place on campus:Â
Blue Chip was a café in the student union building that had amazing cookies. The soccer fields were a close second!
What was your first job after graduation?Â
I was a Guardianship social worker at Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services Society.
What advice do you have for current student-athletes?Â
Enjoy the time you have being a student because the real world can be tough and don't take the time you have with your team for granted because it goes by fast and has the potential to be some of the best years of your life!
What's the best advice you can give to a student or recent alumni to help plan a career?Â
Make as many connections as you can because it will make landing a job that much easier. Study what you love…it took me 4 years to figure it out, I spent my first 4 years trying to pick classes that interested me but I wasn't sure how I was going to turn it into a degree or a job until I discovered the social work program.
How and where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from my parents who always put others first and aren't afraid to speak up about the many injustices in our world. I am also inspired by reading books and learning about other people's journeys and experiences.Â
How have you used your varsity athletic experience in your current career/life?
My varsity experience has given me some of the most meaningful relationships in my life with people who I consider family and who support me in everything I do, including my husband Shawn Bobb. I also learned a lot about leadership, commitment and dedication both on and off the field. I use my experience and success as a varsity athlete to encourage my children in their education and athletic endeavors and as an example of how hard work pays off.Â
