Jackson Farmer, Jordan Haynes, and Logan Chung join UBC men's soccer

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team continues to build for the upcoming season and beyond, as it has added another three outstanding recruits to its roster.

Jackson Farmer, Jordan Haynes, and Logan Chung have committed to playing for the 13-time U SPORTS national champions, and head coach Mike Mosher, starting in the fall of 2019.

"We are certainly excited to be adding these two experienced defenders to our team," Mosher said of Farmer and Haynes. "To add players with their experience and quality will be a huge boost to our group. I think they come in and should hopefully become two of the top defenders in the country right away."

"With Logan, I think we add a player with some real technical ability and attacking quality and with the players we already have in attack, we hope to really see him thrive in this environment."

Farmer and Haynes both bring professional experience to UBC, having won the PDL (now USL League Two) championship with Calgary Foothills in 2018.

Farmer stands 6-foot-2 and has appeared in one match so far for Canada's senior national men's team. The Edmonton native has also represented his country at the U-15, U-20, U-23 levels.

In addition to his stint with Calgary Foothills, Farmer played two seasons and 34 contests with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. He split the 2014 campaign between the Whitecaps FC U-23 team and the Charleston Battery of the USL Pro (now USL Championship).

Born in Peterborough, Ont., the 5-10 Haynes is currently playing for Vancouver's TSS Rovers of USL League Two. Like Farmer, he spent 2015 and 2016 with the Whitecaps FC 2, appearing in 29 games. He played for the Whitecaps FC U-23 team in 2014, the Oklahoma City Energy U23 (USL League Two) and Vaughan Azzurri (League1 Ontario) in 2017 before making the move to Calgary Foothills.

In 2013, Haynes played for Canada's U-17 national team, which competed at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. Two years later, he was on Canada's U-20 roster.

Both Farmer and Haynes are products of the Vancouver Whitecaps Residency program, which is now called the Whitecaps FC Academy, where Chung is a player right now on the U-19 squad.

The attacking midfielder from Port Coquitlam, B.C., joined the Whitecaps FC Academy in September 2014 after previously playing with Coquitlam Metro-Ford in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League.

"I appreciate and look forward to the opportunity to remain in Vancouver to continue both my education and soccer at UBC," said Chung, who graduated from University Hill Secondary School this month.

Last season, Chung scored six goals, and made eight starts in 22 games for the Whitecaps FC U-17 team, and then made three playoff appearances.
