ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds won all three matches Sunday at the Abbotsford tournament of the 2019 Canada West Women's Sevens Series, hosted by the Fraser Valley Cascades, to finish second at the event. UBC went 2-1 on Saturday.
The T-Birds opened the day with a come-from-behind 15-7 win over Calgary, before shutting out host Fraser Valley by 50 points.

UBC concluded Sunday with another comeback triumph, 15-10 over Lethbridge, with the winning margin coming from
Delaney Aikens's try just before the final whistle. The result enabled the T-Birds to hold onto first place in the overall standings with 27 points, just ahead of UVic (25), which won the Abbotsford tournament after going undefeated in six contests.

In the first game on Sunday for the T-Birds, they trailed 7-5 before
Delaney Aikens scored a try to put UBC ahead 10-7 going into halftime.
Kally King recorded the only try in the second half. She also got the first try of the match for UBC.

Vivianna Johnson got three tries and
Madison Blusson scored two in the Thunderbirds' win over Fraser Valley.

Kendra Roberts, and
Rori Wood added a try each. Wood kicked three converts and
Shoshanah Seumanutafa had two.

The weather was a significant storyline on Sunday. After relatively mild temperatures and periodic sun on Saturday, Day 2 featured a rare snowfall in Abbotsford with gusting wind. Temperatures were in the neighbourhood of -5 C, with wind chill to -15 C.
