MONTREAL – A pair of UBC Thunderbirds were honoured as two of the best in U SPORTS men's soccer at the All-Canadian banquet Wednesday morning at Université de Montreal.
T-Birds defender Jackson Farmer was named a first team All-Canadian while third-year forward Victory Shumbusho earned a spot on the second All-Canadian team.
Following up on his first team Canada West All-Star selection, Farmer was one of four defenders named to the top U SPORTS squad. The Edmonton native was a force for UBC in his first season in the blue and gold. In addition to his stellar defensive play, Farmer scored three goals and added an assist.
Shumbusho led the Canada West with 10 goals in 2019 and makes his second All-Canadian appearance after being named to the 2017 second team, a year that saw him make All-Rookie and take home the Canada West Rookie of the Year award.
Farmer, Shumbusho, and the rest of the All-Canadians were honoured along with the four major award winners which saw Montreal Carabins midfielder Aboubacar Sissoko earn the Joe Johnson Memorial Trophy as U SPORTS men's soccer Player of the Year.
The T-Birds open up play at the 2019 U SPORTS national championship Thursday against the RSEQ runners-up from the Université du Quebec à Trois-Rivieres. Kickoff is set for 9:30 a.m. PT on the Université de Montreal campus.
