John Gay has been honoured as a member of the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Track & Field/Cross Country First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® College Division Track & Field/Cross Country Teams are comprised of student-athletes from U SPORTS, NAIA and two-year institutions.

Gay is an International Relations major from Kelowna, B.C., who boasts a grade-point average of 3.50. He won the 3,000-metre steeplechase title at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the third consecutive year in May, and also recorded a second-place finish in the 5,000 metres. Gay finished his university track and field career with five All-America finishes at the NAIA national meet.
In November, Gay placed fourth overall at the NAIA Men's Cross Country Championship in Vancouver, Wash., to help the Thunderbirds to their first NAIA team title in school history.

He was one of the stars at the 97th annual Big Block Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet in May where he was named the co-winner of the 2018 Bus Phillips Memorial Trophy as UBC's Male Athlete of the Year with Byron Keturakis. Gay also won the TAC Performance Award, and was part of the UBC men's track and field squad that was named the team of the year.
Gay also represented Canada in the past year, finishing fourth in the steeplechase at the Francophone Games, in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire (July), and 11th at the Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan (August).
