ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds fell heartbreakingly short of winning a fourth-consecutive Rounsefell Cup, the BC Rugby Men's Premier League championship, Saturday, dropping a 16-10 decision to the UBC Old Boys Ravens at Abbotsford's Exhibition Park.
Saturday's tilt was the rubber match between the squads, as the Ravens won at UBC 32-17 on Sept. 16, 2017 before the Thunderbirds returned the favour 22-5 on Dec. 2 at Jericho Park.
On Saturday, UBC Old Boys jumped out to an 10-0 lead within the first 20 minutes of action but UBC closed to 10-7 on an
Elias Ergas try, converted by
Theo Sauder, before halftime.

Sauder tied the game 10-10 in the second half with a penalty goal for the T-Birds before the Ravens regained the advantage with a penalty of their own. They added another penalty late in the game to go ahead 16-10.
UBC had possession of the ball at the end of the game and threatened to score but couldn't get over the try line before the final whistle.
The Ravens, with 10 former T-Birds on their roster including
Adam McQueen, who scored 11 of the team's 16 points, claimed their first Rounsefell Cup in 24 years. UBC was trying to become the first team to earn four straight Rounsefell Cups since James Bay finished a run of seven consecutive titles in 1980.
