MISSOULA, Mont. –
Sydney Brown set a school record for most stolen bases in a game as the UBC Thunderbirds defeated the host Providence (Mont.) Argonauts 3-2 in Saturday's series finale in Missoula, Mont.
Â
UBC's win in the non-conference matchup came after Providence no-hit the T-Birds in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader, a 5-0 result that counted in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings.
Game 1
Providence's Kristina George struck out five batters in the complete-game no-hitter.
Â
Despite her dominance, UBC got a runner into scoring position in the second and third innings, when the game was scoreless.
Â
Sierra Sherritt reached on an error to lead off the second. After a strikeout and a pop fly, Sherritt stole second base, but didn't advance any further as George recorded a strikeout to end the inning.
Â
Ashley Jacob was hit by a pitch to start off the third, and moved to second on the ensuing sacrifice bunt by
Taylore Jones. Jacob got to third base on Brown's groundout, but George was able to get out of the jam, this time by inducing a pop fly, stranding the UBC runner.
Â
The Argos got all the offence they would need in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, and the bases loaded, Karlie Southworth came home on a double steal to open the scoring. A walk then loaded the bases again. Gabrielle Canibeyaz came up to the plate next and delivered with a double to left center to score three.
Â
Providence tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 5-0.
Â
Game 2
Brown was unstoppable on the base paths in Game 2, which was also highlighted by pitcher
Chantelle Twynstra's complete-game three-hitter, her first collegiate victory.

The T-Birds scored all three of their runs in the opening inning.
Â
Brown led off with a walk, and got to third with the aid of two Providence wild pitches. Jones then got on base via a walk. Brown and Jones then executed the double steal next, with Brown touching home plate to get the UBC on the scoreboard.
Â
Sherritt then singled to drive in Jones, and came home later in the inning on a fielder's choice.
Â
Providence had the bases loaded with just one out in the bottom of the first but Twynstra kept the Argos to just a lone unearned run, getting a force out at home, and a strike out of Samantha Hernandez to end the inning with UBC still ahead 3-1.
Â
The T-Birds also loaded the bases in the top of the second but couldn't score before the hosts got the third out on a fielder's choice play.
Â
In the fifth, the home team looked poised to tie the game, as there were Providence runners on second and third with one out. Hanna Tarum got one of those runners home on an RBI ground out, but Twynstra got the next batter to fly out to right field.
Â
Including the pair in the fifth, Twynstra allowed just four opposing players to reach base after the first inning. She retired the side in the sixth and seventh to cap off the best performance of her rookie NAIA season, and improve to 1-3.
Â
Twynstra struck out five batters and surrendered two runs, one unearned.

Along with Brown, Sherritt was one of the catalysts for UBC's offence in Game 2, recording three of the team's four hits, a walk, an RBI, and a run scored. Catcher
Erin Reid also had a performance of note at the plate, with a hit and two walks.
Â
UBC will now return to Canada to prepare for a pair of doubleheaders, Friday and Saturday, at Softball City against the College of Idaho.
