VICTORIA, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds went undefeated on the final day of action of the 2018 Canada West Rugby 7s Series' Victoria stop to finish third at the tournament, and fourth in the overall conference competition.
 
Hera Sfikas scored three tries, Emily Baker two, and Nicole Mallow one, as UBC beat Thompson Rivers 38-0.
 
Shoshanah Seumanutafa kicked three converts while Brooke Bazian recorded the other to round out the offence.
 
The Thunderbirds secured fourth-place in the conference thanks an outstanding second-half comeback against the Calgary Dinos. Mallow crossed the try line right as time expired to knot the game at 10-10 and ensure the Thunderbirds a third-place finish in Victoria, giving them just enough points to edge out the fifth-place Pandas in the conference standings.
 
The T-Birds trailed the Dinos 10-0 at the half before Ciara Malone started the comeback with a try.
 
UBC finished the Victoria tournament with a 3-2-1 record. Seumanutafa was the squad's top scorer with 33 points on three tries and nine converts.
 
The T-Birds went 9-8-1 over the course of the three Canada West rugby 7s tournaments. Bazian led the T-Birds in scoring with 69 points (five tries and 22 converts). Malone wasn't far behind with 65 points from a UBC-best 13 tries. Rookie Seumanutafa recorded six tries and 14 converts for 58 points.
