The best match of the day was the back-and-forth battle between UBC and Calgary, which came down to the very last play. Every time the Dinos scored, the women in blue and gold replied with a try of their own.
With the 'Birds trailing 17-12 very late in the second half,
Alayna Scramstad got across the try line to tie the game at 17-17. Seumanutafa then kicked a difficult convert through the uprights to give UBC the two-point triumph.
Â
Vanessa Graham opened the scoring for Calgary to make it 5-0.
Brooke Bazian responded with a try and convert to put UBC ahead 7-5. The Dinos took a 12-7 advantage into the mid-game break on Laura Petrillo's try and convert.
Â
After halftime, Bazian earned her second try of the game to level the score at 12-12. Calgary took its third lead of the contest when Graham her second try, which went unconverted.
Â
UBC didn't need last-second heroics in its final matchup, as
Ciara Malone scored four tries in a 45-point shutout of Fraser Valley. Bazian and
Nicole Mallow got the others, while the T-Birds were also awarded a penalty try. Bazian kicked four converts to finish the game with 13 points.
Â
UBC finished the tournament in fifth place with a 3-3 record and 15 points in total. In the overall series standings, the T-Birds are also fifth, with six points.
