EDMONTON – Four members of the UBC Thunderbirds have been honoured as Canada West All Stars, named Wednesday ahead of the start of the conference final four tournament taking place at Trinity Western University starting Friday.
Second-year forward
Danielle Steer has been named a first team All Star while defender
Jessica Williams has been named to the second team. Forward
Michelle Jang and midfielder
Melissa Bustos have both been named to the conference All Rookie team.
Wednesday's honours mark the second straight appearance for both Steer and Williams who were named All Rookies in 2017.
The all-star and all-rookie teams were selected by the conference's 16 women's soccer head coaches, who also vote on the conference's major awards, which will be released Thursday.
Combined, the Final Four schools had 18 players honoured as all-stars or all-rookies: Calgary (6), TWU (5), UBC (4), and Alberta (3).
The four teams will be looking to snag one of two CW berths to the national tournament Friday, as the semifinal winners will earn a berth to the U SPORTS national tournament, which is set for November 8-11 at the University of Ottawa.
UBC takes on Calgary in the first CW semi this Friday at 3 p.m. PT, while TWU plays Alberta later that day at 6 p.m. PT.
