‘Birds dominate Canada West All Star teams

EDMONTON – The UBC Thunderbirds have a whopping ten selections to the Canada West All Star and All Rookie teams announced Wednesday.

Rookie phenom Thomas Gardner has been named to both the first All Star team as well as the All Rookie squad while third-year defender and team captain Connor Guilherme has also been named a first team All Star after earning a second team nod in 2017.

Forwards Caleb Clarke, Kristian Yli-Hietanen, and Sean Einarsson find themselves on the second All Star team along with third-year defender Riley Pang and fourth-year goalkeeper Jason Roberts.

Joining Gardner on the All Rookie team are midfielder Nick Fussell as well as defender Daniel Kaiser.

The all-star and all-rookie teams were selected by the conference's 13 men's soccer head coaches, who also vote on the conference's major awards, which will be released Thursday.

UBC went 13-1-2 during the regular season and will host this weekend's four-team conference tournament, where one team will earn the right to join the 'Birds as a CW representative at the U SPORTS national tournament. UBC is set to host that event November 8-11.
