VANCOUVER – The No. 3 UBC Thunderbirds completed the weekend sweep in Winnipeg getting past the sixth-ranked Wesmen in straight sets 3-0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) at the Duckworth Centre.
UBC improves to 14-2 and remains a top the Canada West standings thanks to well-rounded contributions while the undermanned Wesmen fall to 10-6. Leading the way for the 'Birds was first-year middle
Fynn McCarthy who finished with a game high eight kills while adding five service aces. Meanwhile also propping up the T-Birds was fifth-year left side and captain
Irvan Brar who added six kills and seven digs while fifth-year left side
Keith West who chipped in with five kills, five digs and three service aces.
Fourth-year setter
Byron Keturakis contributed three kills to go along with his game high 28 assists helping the 'Birds to a third straight victory and seventh in their last eight outings. UBC also posted 10 service aces to Winnipeg's two.
Adrian Dyck led the Wesmen with seven kills, and middle blocker Garrett Jones had four kills on seven swings for a team-high .429 attack percentage. Winnipeg hit just .096 as a team.
The Thunderbirds will enjoy a bye week before getting back to conference action in hosting the Brandon Bobcats for back to back games at War Memorial Gym on January 26 and 27.
