Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

T-Birds fall 1-0 in Seattle

SEATTLE – The UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer team finished its 2017 non-conference slate with a 1-0 loss against the Seattle Redhawks Saturday afternoon at Championship Field.

The host Redhawks – picked to finish third in the NCAA Division I's Western Athletic Conference pre-season coaches' poll, just three points out of first – struck early, as Sergio Rivas tallied a 16th-minute goal for the only scoring in the game.

Goalkeeper Chad Bush made six saves in net for the young UBC squad, which included four rookies in the starting 11. Another four saw the field as substitutes.

Seattle held a 12-0 advantage in shots towards the net, and had three corner kicks to UBC's two.

The Thunderbirds will open the 2017 Canada West season next weekend at home. UBC will host Fraser Valley on Friday at 6:30 p.m., and Trinity Western on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., with both games at Thunderbird Stadium.
