BEIJING, China – The UBC Thunderbirds ran into a very tough and skilled Tubingen (Germany) side in the final of the WEUFT (World Elite University Football Tournament) and settled for the silver medal after falling 2-0.
The German side scored late in the first half and late in the second half to record all the offence they would need. UBC goalkeeper
Chad Bush kept the score close throughout the match with several big saves.
UBC midfielder
Zach Verhoven came close to putting the 'Birds on the scoreboard on a couple of occasions, but either couldn't find the target or was stymied by a strong Tubingen defence.
The weeklong tournament played at Beijing's Tsinghua University was an amazing experience for the Thunderbird squad. They matched up with teams from Australia, China and Oxford University. The Thunderbirds also had days to explore Beijing and visited the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square.
The Thunderbirds will open their Canada West season on August 25, with a home match versus the UFV Cascades.
