SALEM, Ore. - The UBC Thunderbirds dropped their opening game of the Cascade Collegiate Conference championship 2-0 to the Oregon Tech Hustlin' Owls. The 'Birds received a very strong pitching performance from starter
Lindsey Ogilvie, but couldn't muster enough offence to take advantage.
Â
The 'Birds fell behind in the top of the second when a Cassidy Hoglund single off UBC starting pitcher Ogilvie was followed by two walks to Oregon Tech Batters and an error by shortstop
Sydney Brown. Hoglund scored on the error giving the Owls a 1-0 lead.

Â
Hoglund struck again in the top of the fourth. With one out she drove an Ogilvie offering over the fence in left-centre field, doubling the Owls' lead to 2-0.
Â
That was all the offence the Owls would need on the day. Oregon Tech starting pitcher Kelly Scott (12-5) was dominant, allowing only three hits over seven innings to earn the victory. Despite giving up just the two runs over a complete game's work, Ogilvie (6-8) took the loss for UBC.

Â
UBC will play its second game of the double-knockout tournament Sunday at 9:00am against either the host Corban Warriors or the College of Idaho Coyotes.
