T-Birds fall in Oregon doubleheader

WILSONVILLE, Ore. – The UBC Thunderbirds were upended 13-3 and 9-1 in a doubleheader by the Corban (Ore.) Warriors Sunday in Wilsonville, Ore.

The first game of the day counted in the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings, while the second was a non-conference matchup. Both lasted five innings.

UBC is now 1-9, and 0-3 in league play. Corban (14-1, 3-0 CCC) is off to its best start ever.

Game 1
Jessie Isham's two-run home run over the left-field fence in the bottom of the first inning set the tone for Corban. The Warriors made it 5-0 in the second before catcher Hillary Strelau's RBI single up the middle scored third baseman Ashley Jacob for UBC's first run of the game in the third. Corban replied with four in the bottom half of the inning.

The Thunderbirds pulled one back in the fourth, as right fielder Mackenzie Siddall got her second RBI of the season with a single to first. That allowed designated player Lindsey Ogilvie to score. Ogilvie also drove in UBC's third run, hitting a sacrifice fly to left to bring home left fielder Paige Harbord in the fifth.

Game 2
The Thunderbirds opened the scoring in the series finale in the first inning, as centre fielder Claire Eccles crossed home plate on a fielding error by Allie Mendez that also allowed Shaelyn Ogilvie to reach base.

Corban took control of the game in the bottom of the first, posting four unearned runs to take a 4-1 lead. The hosts added a single in the fourth, and ended the game in the fifth with four more.

UBC is back on the road this weekend, with a pair of doubleheaders – Saturday and Sunday – at Carroll in Helena, Mont.
