The Matchup
In 1920, when UBC's rugby team beat Stanford 12-0, Rugby's World Cup trophy was created and held in trust for one year. Since 1921, when UBC beat Cal-Berkeley 8-0, the trophy has been awarded annually to the winner of a home and home series between UBC and the winner of the annual PAC-12 clash between Stanford and Cal-Berkeley.
This year it's the 'Birds versus the Cal Bears, with the second leg of the storied series going Sunday at 1pm at Thunderbird Stadium.
Tickets for the game are only $10 for adults, $7 for UBC staff and alumni, and $2 for UBC students.
Last Action
UBC rode a dominant first half and finished with a 28-17 victory over the Bears on February 18 in Berkeley, California.
The two games are based on aggregate, meaning Cal would need to beat UBC by 12 at Thunderbird Stadium. This would be no small feat for the Bears as UBC is rolling of late.
Players To Watch
Adam McQueen – The 'Birds inside-centre has been magical from the tee this season. In the first game against Cal he converted all four UBC tries.
Manar Kulkhan – the big winger is finding his groove patrolling the UBC sideline. He scored two tries in the opening game of the series, including a highlight reel run that saw him blow past several would-be Bear tacklers.
