LANGFORD, B.C. – The UBC Thunderbirds women's team placed second at Rugby Canada's National University 7's Rugby Championship, which ran Friday and Saturday, in Langford, B.C.

In the Cup Final, defending champions UBC were defeated by the Victoria Vikes 24-0. It was 17-0 at halftime, and the T-Birds weren't able to mount a comeback.

UBC won its first five games of the weekend to get to the gold-medal matchup for the second consecutive year.

Mackenzie Lee scored two tries to lead the Thunderbirds to a 24-14 win over Alberta in the semifinal Saturday afternoon.
Ciara Malone and
Brooke Bazian also recorded tries, and Bazian kicked two conversions as well.

In Saturday's first game, a quarter-final contest, UBC beat Humber 12-0 on two
Madison Gold tries and a conversion by
Ciara Malone.

It was the second match in two days between the two teams, who also clashed in the final group game on Friday, which saw the T-Birds winning 34-5.

UBC opened the tournament with a 19-15 win over Guelph, and a 54-0 blanking of Saskatchewan.

Bazian led the team with five tries and six conversions for a total of 37 points in six games. She was fourth amongst all players in the tournament in points, and seventh in tries.
