Five T-Birds make All-Canadian

HAMILTON, Ont. (U SPORTS) - A total of five UBC Thunderbirds have been selected as All-Canadians as announced Thursday evening during the 2017 All-Canadian Awards Gala held at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

Only the defending Vanier Cup champion Laval Rouge et Or have more selections with six while the T-Birds lead the way with the most selections from the Canada West.




Offence

Trivel Pinto (Slotback) - Pinto led the 'Birds with 717 receiving yards along with five touchdowns and added 300 all-purpose yards and two more majors in UBC's two playoff games.

Defence

Connor Griffiths (Defensive Lineman) - The third-year out of Langley finished an outstanding regular season with 17.5 total tackles and a pair of sacks.

Stavros Katsantonis (Safety) - The "Bakersfield Bandit" makes his second-straight first-team All-Canadian appearance. The third-year Arts student led the Canada West with four interceptions and three forced fumbles and finished with 25.5 total tackles. He added another pick and five tackles in UBC's Hardy Cup semi-final win over Regina and amassed eight total tackles in the Hardy Cup.

Malcom Lee (Halfback) - Lee had three interceptions on the season and broke up a total of six passes as the third-year lower mainland product proved to be a nightmare for opposing offences week after week.

Will Maxwell (2nd Team) (Cornerback) - The fourth-year defensive back led all Thunderbirds with 39 total tackles and added an interception in the season opener against Regina.22989
