VANCOUVER – A star appeared to be born during the opening days of the UBC men's soccer season. First year UBC Arts student-athlete
Zach Verhoven was a stand out player for the Surrey United program, now he has brought his talents to Point Grey. We caught up with Verhoven, who eventually wants to earn a degree in psychology from UBC, in this edition of T-Bird Tell-All.
LC: You scored your first goal as a Thunderbird in a 3-1 win over UNBC. How did you feel when you saw the ball cross the goal line?
ZV: I was so happy. It meant so much to me to score my first career goal. Hopefully I'll score some more in the upcoming games.
LC: It's your first year at UBC. How have you been settling in during the first few days of school?
ZV: It's been going good. I'm rooming with one of my best friends, so everything has been going really well so far. I've been really enjoying living on campus.
LC: You scored three points (1 goal, 2 assists) in the UBC Head Coach Mike Mosher's 200th career CIS victory. What are your thoughts on that?
ZV: It's a really good feeling. Mike owes me one now because I got him his 200th win. So, you're welcome Mike.
LC: What are your pre-game rituals?
ZV: Usually I just listen to music, get in the zone, and go my hardest.
LC: What kind of music "gets you in the zone"?
ZV: Rap music. Drake. You know, getting hyped up, getting in the zone, that kind of music.
LC: Soccer players run kilometres at a time during games. What type of pre-game meals do you eat to get the fuel to perform?
ZV: I just try to eat healthy. Maybe Subway, some fruit, and drink lots of water.
