BURNABY, B.C. – Nothing was settled between Lower Mainland rivals as the UBC Thunderbirds and the host Simon Fraser Clan battled to a 1-1 draw in a non-conference women's soccer match at Terry Fox Field in Burnaby on Saturday afternoon.

Sydney Jennings stole the ball in the penalty area and fired a quick, low shot past Clan goalkeeper Priya Sandhu from 10 yards out in the 83rd minute to level the score.
The Thunderbirds, 2015 Canadian Interuniversity Sport champions, carried the play for most of the first half, directing eight shots at the SFU net and forcing five saves, but the Clan kept the game scoreless going into the mid-game break.

The hosts came alive in the second period as Olivia Aguiar scored in the 60th minute off a corner kick from Teagan McManus, beating her defender to the cross into the penalty area and heading home the ball home from six yards out.
 
Aguiar almost stole a victory minutes after the 'Birds pulled even. Aguiar, dribbling near the touchline, lobbed a shot that sailed over UBC 'keeper 
Marlee Maracle but ricocheted off the cross bar. The Clan forced Maracle to make a save on a corner kick in 90th minute as well.
 
UBC outshot SFU 10-7. Maracle made four saves, while Sandhu recorded five. The teams had six corner kicks each.
 
The next game for the T-Birds will take place Tuesday at Ken Woods Field against Richmond FC. The team will open Canada West league play on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Victoria.
