VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds created a goal early and defended well to take a 1-0 home victory from visiting Seattle Pacific University.
Â
The win concludes the T-Birds exhibition season. The regular season kicks off on Saturday, August 27th on the road versus Thompson Rivers.
Â
UBC striker Manpal Brar converted on a penalty kick in the third minute of play. Brar was taken down in the penalty area after being sent in on goal by a nifty through ball from fellow forward Zach Verhoven.
Â
"Today was all about evaluating our new players and we were able to do that," said UBC Head Coach
Mike Mosher. "It was nice to see two first-year players create our goal. Zach slips in Manpal and he gets brought down and converts the penalty himself."

Jason Roberts and Colton Cook combined on the shutout for the Thunderbirds, making it more than 180 minutes since a ball has found the back of the UBC net.
Â
"Zero goals against in two games, that's important," added Mosher. "We've got a real tradition here of keeping things tight defensively."
