The Matchup
Friday, August 19th - 7:30 PM - Thunderbird Stadium
The clash of crosstown rivals happens in too few varsity sports now that SFU has moved into the NCAA. Men's soccer is one sport that SFU and UBC have done a great job in renewing the tradition. UBC has not lost to SFU since the rivalry was rekindled in 2013, including a 1-0 victory in last year's pre-season tilt.
Â
Last Action
Â
UBC has returned from a trip through the Pacific Northwest where they matched up against NCAA teams Oregon State and Seattle University. Although the T-Birds lost both games by identical 3-1 scores, Head Coach
Mike Mosher and his staff did get the chance to play several of their young and first year players.
Â
Â
The game versus UBC will be SFU's first action of the 2016 season.
Â
By the Numbers
Â
43-6 – the season scoring margin UBC enjoyed last season in a year where they seemed destined to hoist a 14th CIS Championship. Their dream was de-railed in a heartbreaking 0-0 (5-4) loss to York on PK's in the national semifinal match.
7- the amount of consecutive games SFU has won dating back to last season.
Â
Players To Watch
Â
UBC - Kerman Pannu (#13, M) – the sensational midfielder potted three goals in 2015 for the T-Birds and will be looking to vastly improve upon that total in 2016 with more playing time.
Â
SFU- Marcello Polosi (#21, M) – the long-time member of the Vancouver Whitecaps residency program will be making his debut for the Clan. Polosi barely missed out on winning a roster spot with WCF2 earlier this year.
Â
Coach's Take

Â
"It's always great when we get to play SFU as there is a healthy rivalry between the two teams," says UBC Head Coach
Mike Mosher. "SFU has added some pieces to last year's team so they will be a tough match-up. Our players will be up for the game and I'm sure they will be as well."
