RECAP: T-Birds fall to Eagles at Northwest Cup

VANCOUVER – The UBC Thunderbirds softball team (0-3) fell 9-1 to the Concordia (Calif.) Eagles (13-1) in the second half of their Saturday doubleheader at the Northwest Cup in Happy Valley, Ore.

The 'Birds got off to a good start, scoring the game's first run at the top of the opening inning – a double from staff ace Lindsey Ogilvie (Surrey, B.C.) drove in Hillary Strelau (Richmond, B.C.) from second.

Unfortunately, that was where things took a turn for the worse, as Concordia took the lead with two runs in the second inning and never looked back.

The Eagles added three runs in the third, and two in each of the fourth and fifth inning, handing the 'Birds their third straight loss to open the campaign.

The T-Birds will have a chance to get back at it with a doubleheader tomorrow, February 21, as they are set to take on the Concordia (Ore.) Cavaliers at 9:30 a.m. (PT), and follow that up with a 12 noon (PT) clash with the Saint Martin's Saints to close out the five-game Northwest Cup.
