VANCOUVER – The UBC men's volleyball program is proud to announce that George Elliot Secondary School volleyball star and member of the Canadian Junior National Volleyball Team Fynn McCarthy will be attending UBC in Fall of 2017.
The Lake Country, BC native is widely regarded as one of the top junior volleyball players in the country and was selected to Canada's U-18 team roster this summer.
This despite only playing organized volleyball for two years, McCarthy is a natural talent who has the potential to be a big contributor to the UBC Thunderbirds in his first year with the team.
"He's a very exciting athlete for us to be getting into the program," says UBC Head Coach
Kerry MacDonald. "He has the ability to play multiple positions and is definitely one of the top recruits in the country."
McCarthy is a talented hockey and basketball player who started playing volleyball in grade 10 when he was talked into trying out for the squad at George Elliot. The 6-foot-6 McCarthy has mainly played the middle blocker position for the Coyotes and Team Canada.
