VANCOUVER – Former UBC Thunderbirds men's soccer star Pat Onstad is one of the latest nominees to Canada's Soccer Hall of Fame.

He is one of three players introduced as part of the Class of 2015, which also includes two builders, a pioneer, an organization of distinction and a team of distinction.Â

Onstad, a goalkeeper, backstopped UBC to three Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national championships (1991, 92 and 94) during his career with the Thunderbirds and was the Most Valuable Player of the 1994 tournament. He was also named a Canada West league All-Star and a CIS tournament All-Star three times.

Onstad entered pro soccer in 1987 at the age of 18 with the Vancouver 86ers and enjoyed a 25-year professional career that took him across Canada, to Scotland and the United States.

He twice won Major League Soccer's Goalkeeper of the Year award (2003 and 2005) while with the San Jose Earthquakes. Onstad helped San Jose to the MLS championship in 2003 and won back-to-back titles while tending the goal for Houston Dynamo in 2006 and 2007.

Internationally, Onstad played 58 times for Canada – between 1988 and 2010 – with 21 shutouts.

He was part of Canada's CONCACAF Gold Cup championship team in 2000 as well as the Canadian squad that captured the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship in 1986.

Onstad was named the Canadian Player of the Year in 2003.

He's currently is an assistant coach with the Columbus Crew.

Onstad will be inducted into the Soccer Hall of Fame on November 8 in Vaughn, Ont.
