Lawrenceville, GA - The UBC Thunderbirds lost 9-1 in five innings to Ashford University in the opening game of the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
With the loss the Thunderbirds will now face the University of Houston-Victoria with their season on the line in the double elimination tournament tomorrow.
Two big offensive innings were the difference as Ashford scored three runs in top of the first inning and another five runs in the top of the fifth inning. They added a single run in the fourth inning.
Lindsey Ogilvie suffered the loss, pitching four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine earned runs on 13 hits while striking out two.
Nicole Schmidt earned the victory for the Saints. She tossed four scoreless innings, allowing just three hits, while walking one and striking out two.
Offensively, UBC just couldn't get it going at the plate managing just five hits and one run. Ogilvie led the Thunderbirds at the plate finishing 2-for-3 on the day with a double and the lone RBI.
Siera Spahiu did the damage for the Saints finishing the day 3-for-3 with two doubles and four runs batted in.
