AUSTIN, Texas – Twelve current UBC Thunderbirds, along with one recruit, and assistant coach
Brian Johns were down in Texas this weekend for the Arena Pro Swim Series stop in Austin, Texas. The three-day event featured some of the top swimmers from across North America including a number of Olympic gold medalists.
Highlighting the weekend was a first place finish by the 4x200-metre freestyle relay team featuring
Marshal Parker,
Keegan Zanatta,
Yuri Kisil, and
Stefan Milosevic. The quartet clocked a new meet record time of 7:28.45 beating out a team featuring 11-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte.
Swimming in her first significant international meet, first-year butterfly specialist
Jacomie Strydom put forth an impressive effort, making the 'A' final in the 200m butterfly. She finished eighth in a time of 2:15.33. She also finished 9th in the 100m butterfly and 17th in the 400m individual medley.
Other UBC swimmers to make an 'A' final, included
Coleman Allen in the 200m butterfly (6th 2:00.93), Milosevic in the 200m freestyle (6th 1:51.06), as well as 2015 recruit Emily Overholt. The West Vancouver product finished seventh in the 400m freestyle (4:17.19) and eighth in the 400m individual medley (4:53.61).
The Thunderbirds are gearing up for the 2015 CIS Championships, which will be held February 19-21 in Victoria.
